Fang Xiaofeng was born in Shanghai, and graduated from Tsinghua University in 1992, received Bachelor of Architecture. From 1992 to 1997, he worked in Shanghai Zhongjian Architectural Design Insititute Co., Ltd; he received his Ph.D at School of Architecture, Tsinghua University in 2002. Since 2002, he has been teaching at the Academy of Arts and Design, Tsinghua University; since 2007, he has been working in the Zhuangshi magazine.
Fang Xiaofeng’s major is architecture history and theory. In addition to teaching and editorial work, he often writes architectural review while planning related activities. As the editor in chief of the only art and design core journal in mainland China, he is very concerned about the current situation of Chinese design and its development in various fields. He organized many national design and education forums, paying attention to contemporary Chinese design issue especially theoretical research about design ethics.
He has taken part in the curatorial work of “Design for China—Twenty Years of Foreign Design" and "Design for China—Expo Building", two full-length documentary for CCTV. In 2008, he worked as the curator of "Zhuangshi • China’s Road—New Chinese Design Document" during the 50th anniversary of Zhuangshi, which attracted broad attention. In 2009, he was the curator of “Art Renovation—The Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University Invitation Exhibition”. The exhibition mainly reflected literati culture in Chinese design tradition.
